Mindful Yoga! Program
Mindful yoga includes direct instruction and practice in:
- breathing exercises
- mindful relaxation
- stretching and balancing exercises
- proper diet and nutrition
- group laughter as an aerobic exercise
- personal leadership for good decision-making
- sharing learned skills via service project
Breathing Exercises:
Through yoga, students learn the right way to breathe, how to recognize changes in their breathing caused by stress. As the breath cleans and purifies, there is an increased feeling of lightness, renewed energy in the body and a greater calmness and clarity of mind.
Mindful Relaxation
Mindful Relaxation is the art of finding ourselves. It guides us to a more aware, centered and open place where we can be free of past conditioning and our natural perfection is revealed. Students become calmer, happier and healthier.
Laughter Yoga:
Laughter Yoga has countless physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits. It is a fun, anti-stress exercise that requires active participation. Students will learn a number of simple physical group exercises to help them loosen up, breathe deeply and experience the joy of laughter.
Proper diet and nutrition:
Food coaching (healthy diet) to help you develop sustainable food choices and eating habits for optimal health. This motivational session introduces power- eating and diet changes that promote weight loss and lead to a more balanced life. Experience this natural approach to losing weight and achieving health and happiness.
Personal Leadership
Throughout the course of this program, students will learn to apply techniques for making healthy decisions and for taking responsibility for the decisions and actions they take. They will develop an increased confidence that will positively influence their experiences in the classroom, in solving problems, improving relationships, and in taking care of themselves in a well-rounded and healthy way.
Group Discussions and Interactive Games:
Teens share their experiences in a safe open forum setting. Group discussions are designed to help them feel at ease in challenging situations, and increase confidence and inner strength to better handle criticism and peer pressure. Interactive games help them practice problem-solving strategies and life skills. Teamwork exercises teach cooperation and conflict resolution.
Service:
The final two weeks of the Mindful Yoga! Program is devoted to the practical application of learned skills through individual service projects. Students design and implement a plan to share practices that they've learned with two of their peers. Parents, teachers and community volunteers serve as adult mentors, supporting students' efforts to refresh their understanding of the techniques learned and implement their service projects. These two weeks provide rich opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, strengthen discipline in practicing the relaxation and breathing techniques, and gain the confidence that comes from service.
Individualized Consultation:
Ranjit Deora and his Team are available for private consultation with students, parents, teachers and adult mentors throughout the course of the program.
The Mindful Yoga Program is excited to be expanding…
